Is it legal for movie studios and producers to quietly “borrow” material from a screenplay then simply deny it

does might make right? asked: I notice how Syriana producers at Warner Bros. recently won the plagiarism complaint against them. I know of other questionable practices by Warner Bros. in the past, and very recently where they seem to think they can use screenwriters’ material at their leisure. Why don’t video game companies and movie studios accept ideas from the public?
